CAREER ADVICE
THE PLAN (In 1980) was to set up a business from the kitchen table; create a whole new industry and cure the mass unemployment problem that those pesky 1970s left behind.
In 2022 the UK hit an all-time historic record for the greatest number of people in employment; a record broken again in 2023 and early 2024.
THE PLAN obviously worked!
But now – we know it’s tough out there again.
Don’t worry it won’t last forever.
At the time of writing we are not actively recruiting, so we’d appreciate Recruitment Agencies not disturbing the flow of creativity going on here.
If you ARE NOT a recruitment agent, but think you are weird enough to work here, send us something; no promises but you never know…
Be creative in your communication, tell us the decade you were born out of, (optional – illegal request if we were interviewing you – but it means we can place you in a cultural era – there are no better or worse eras to come from).
Tell us what you’re into, tell us why you think you’d love it.
TIP: there are no wrong answers, don’t be ashamed of admitting you have a favourite poet, or a love for reading Charles Dickens while a banger is causing cracks in your ear pods – or if your hero is still Poppa Pig.
What ARE you interested in. We never disparage hobbies and pastimes.
No Judgement here.
Just don’t fake it to sound interesting; you’ll always live to regret that.
If you’re all about THE TECH or you are very techy techy, that’s ok, we won’t hold it against you – tell us why you think that might be useful in our world of foveal views, contour bias and a Mac based Creative Marketing Studio.
Weird is good, useful practical skills weird is golden.
BTW: If you don’t think you’re weird at all, just dead “normal” that’s ok.
(Every weirdo has a normal, every normal has a weirdo lurking in them somewhere.)
If you’re all about the Social or online advertising tell us where your practical, pragmatic and highly effective skills may help our clients get noticed.
(Without telling us you’re “an influencer” or know “influencers” we’re not easily impressed)
If you describe yourself as an Artist when you’re actually a Graphic Designer or Photographer take a good long look in the mirror before telling us that.
CVs filled with Fake it till you Make it claims of why you’ve had 8 jobs in 6 years or 4 since leaving Uni 6 months ago – not really interested.
Unless your checkerboard is wrapped up in a very good story. We do love stories.
Wow! look at all those numbers – does your head hurt now?
That may be a good thing!
If it doesn’t hurt, we do A LOT of planning and logistics – no one lost a job due to knowing their way around a spread sheet; if that’s your bag and you can prove lateral as well as on the rails thinking, maybe you might want to point that out.
We might not be the right fit for you – even when we’ are recruiting – (which isn’t right now – s don’t get excited) – but always happy to offer experienced opinions (your college lecturer probably doesn’t have) on what you could use to bulk up your chances of employment in the industry.
FINALLY and in the meantime:
Over on “Our APPROACH” page – there’s a great story we have written exactly as re-told by Sir Ken Robinson.
If you’ve never heard of him go watch his Ted talks and seminar appearances on You Tube. Or here: www.sirkenrobinson.com
